we have been hiring in this week yes, although nowhere near 10 trucks a day – i will speak to eric and darren in shipping and ask why aren’t we utilising own fleet (if it’s available when we need it) – there may be various reasons – i take it you are in cluster 20 or 24? …
i agree – ideally we should be doing that

what area/plant do you cover?
if it’s northfleet try mark wilkinson or neil woolner (sales manager)

Robert,
Part-Loads are as they are … £53.00 for each metre not carried in the truck … which in many ways I think is fair, because when someone doesn’t take a full-load we still need to cover haulage, raw material and running costs – and make money out of it at the same time … obviously not for customers who are just wanting the odd 1m3 here and there of course …
I’m not able to discuss rates as I have no say in the matter – and in terms of what our competitors pay for our materials, I wouldn’t know where to start either …
In terms of cement and aggregates being busy, I would say that is probably because plants like Luton, Watford, Hatfield, Cambridge, Letchworth, Aylesbury, Northampton etc. have had really busy starts to the year … and we often struggle to get the materials we order ourselves, believe me!!

no it doesn’t – but I have offered a reply for what I know out of courtesy and decency as you had not heard anything else back
I hope others from CEMEX can help answer your question and offer you some more info to reassure you – I suggest you speak to your area commercial reps./managers
cheers, tom

Gents – i can’t qualify as speaking for the whole CEMEX management team and nor am i a commercial/sales spokes-man …
from an operations point of view, all i can say is that the company is definitely going for volume this year – obviously at the right price … which i know we aren’t always the cheapest, but it’s based on quality of material and what else we can offer … when i hear how low some of our competitors are going on price for tenders i really don’t know how they manage to make money … ?! … i think we have perhaps realised now that we were a bit too aggressive on pricing in certain areas and services in recent years – and thus, are trying our best at making some amends for that …
Paul – hearing that plants like newcastle and sunderland etc. are quiet is a real shame as i’m from the north-east and love to hear when my old plant middlesbrough is firing – i hope it picks up for you and knowing the lads up there (who are all a great top bunch of lads) im sure they will be doing their best to get the numbers up … just might mean a few more away days for you down south in the mean-time … i hear that teesside is quite busy at the moment so hopefully you are getting some of that work? …
what i can say for sure is that it is in all of our (CEMEX’s) interests to see all of you guys busy and hitting productivity … speaking for cluster 15 (home counties) we are seeing that (in most cases – but not all) … we had a great january which was surprising as traditionally it’s quiet and i can only hope that has translated to our IHC’s earnings also …
we all wear the same badge on our chest and we all play for the same team – and i really hope the quieter areas can pick some volume up soon, because i know the commercial teams are trying to do the best they can for all of us … and if you’re quiet come to cluster 15 on a busy day as we always need trucks!!!!!
